There’s no way around it: there are no quick fixes to cellulite removal. From cupping and caffeine-powered creams (we’re talking about you, Bounce Box!) to liposuction and laser, these treatments do not deliver a one-and-done solution. It takes commitment and consistency to a healthy lifestyle to dissolve those dimples on your derrière, and even then, ongoing treatments may be needed. The good news is that once you commit to living your best life, not only will cellulite start to disappear, but so will a whole host of other concerns. Here’s why:
We already know that age, weight gain, dehydration, lack of circulation, stress and a sedentary lifestyle are all root causes of cellulite. While this may seem like a long list of unrelated contributing factors, there’s one thing they all have in common: inflammation.
Chronic low-grade inflammation is the eventual outcome of an unhealthy lifestyle. While acute inflammation is a natural response to protect the body from pathogens and facilitate wound healing, chronic, low-grade inflammation is not helpful. It runs the body down, interferes with metabolism and detoxification, slows healthy cellular renewal and leads to poor tissue repair and degeneration. Chronic, low-grade inflammation also wreaks havoc on healthy skin function by breaking down collagen, the structural protein that forms skin’s layers. So, instead of asking “how can I get rid of my cellulite?”, the better question may be “how can I stop chronic inflammation in its tracks?” The answer lies in your lifestyle habits. Below are 5 ways to reduce chronic low-grade inflammation in your body and also reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Weight gain and cellulite are related. Additionally, some foods high in salt, sugar and fat can cause fluid retention and reduce collagen synthesis, which also contribute to cellulite. So, there are many advantages to adopting a healthy diet. Some foods that help reduce inflammation and cellulite at once are:
Hydrating fruits and vegetables - watermelon, berries, cucumber and celery help reduce dehydration and bloating
High-fiber foods - cruciferous vegetables, berries and chia seeds help cleanse the colon, curb appetite and support metabolism
Clean protein - lean, grass-fed meats and fish support healthy metabolism and aid in cellulite reduction
Healthy fats - MCTs found in coconut oil support healthy tissue and boost metabolism
Water - it may seem obvious but water keeps skin hydrated and helps flush out toxins, both keys to reducing inflammation and cellulite
There’s the collagen we make and the collagen we take. When chronic inflammation has taken over our body, natural collagen production is compromised. Therefore, it’s important to support our body’s natural supply with a collagen supplement. Bone broth is a great source of amino acids as well as trace minerals and antioxidant compounds. For vegans, there are plant- based sources of collagen. Whether taken in powder, pill or food form, adding collagen to your daily diet will support healthy skin function, repair damage that’s been done due to inflammation, and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
We have written about this here and here but we really can’t stress it enough...exercise is the best way to reduce stress, reduce inflammation, increase metabolism and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Adding more muscles to your frame, improving all over tone and reducing subcutaneous and abdominal fat delivers rewards that truly last a lifetime. Conversely, nothing ages us faster than a stressful, sedentary lifestyle.
Dry brushing, cupping, gua sha and massage therapy help boost blood flow and stimulate lymphatic drainage, pushing out toxins and making room for fresh blood and oxygen. We’ve built our Bounce Box around our proprietary cupping technique, and we have seen first hand how consistent cupping alone reduces the appearance of cellulite. When combined with other healthy habits, cellulite doesn’t stand a chance.
While its effects on cellulite are unknown, breath work and meditation are proven to have significant and long lasting positive impacts on stress reduction, and as we know, stress leads to chronic low-grade inflammation which leads to cellulite. The worst thing that can happen with meditation is that you feel great. The best thing that could happen is that you look as great as you feel.
